Just a Thought

Today as I listened to the talks in church I felt spiritually fed. I felt my attitude change and my spirit swell with gratitude for all that God has blessed me with. I began to realize how strong the spirit was in that meeting. Most importantly I began to realize that the spirit was specifically witnessing to me that what the speaker was saying was true. He was saying that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and this was the true church. That Christ died for the same principles that are taught in this church. I had been praying for more spiritual witnesses because I've had many but my well was getting a bit dry. God answered my prayers. My message is keep the faith, pray, be obedient and dedicated and God will give you a witness. The spirit is like a soft whisper that can fill your heart with joy and knowledge if you let it in.
We are all in this together

I used to watch the Red Green Show and one of my favorite sayings of Red Green is that "We are all in this together". That seems to fit when things get tough for some people and not for others. When one person is hurting we all are hurting and when one is doing well we all rejoice. I viewed this video of "Good things Come" just after reading about the Gulf Oil Disaster. I am so depressed about it and feel like it is more bad news than I can take. This is a disaster of epic proportions with no solution in sight. Added on the unemployment of 20%, of which we are currently a part of, we have the worry of impending increased energy cost. How are we going to survive this, I asked myself. Couldn't we learn from it and regulate the oil drilling much better than we have been and not start punishing the "little people"? If you say let's do without the oil, then don't bother driving to work in your car today, figure out another way to get to work. We simply depend on oil for now. Remember the Apollo 13 disaster? Of course you do, we all saw the movie. It was great - but just a reminder, here is Wikipedia’s description of the event:
” April 11, 1970en route to the Moon, a fault in electrical equipment inside one of the Service Module's oxygen tanks produced an explosion which caused the loss of both tanks' oxygen, depriving the Service Module of electrical power. This forced the crew to shut down the Command Module to conserve its batteries and oxygen needed for the last hours of flight, and use the Lunar Module's resources as a "lifeboat" during the return trip to Earth. Despite great hardship caused by limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to geri-rig the carbon dioxide removal system, the crew returned safely to Earth on April 17, and the mission was termed a "successful failure". “
What this description doesn’t cover, is the US citizen’s reaction to this disaster. I believe that at that time, a good portion of the people had united themselves in prayer individually and collectively to pray for these men to return safely. Despite the great efforts of the crew and the intelligent men in the control center, I believe it was God’s intervention that brought them safely back to earth. There were just too many things that could have gone wrong despite all they did. It really was a miracle. I wish that we could remember that, when we are trying to solve our problems, not to forget God. Oh I know that there has been a campaign of late to do just that – forget God – so we don’t offend those who don’t believe in Him. But for those of us who remember who is in charge and where the answers to questions come from (that even the smartest and best can’t figure out) let us individually and collectively join together in our prayers for solution to this disaster. God can’t take away our free agency to ignore Him and His solutions and I believe He stands anxiously waiting for us to set aside our pride and acknowledge Him. I also believe that you who may read this are more than likely already doing this and are very faithful in your prayers – so no judging here. But what I am saying is... I would like to go back to the days when we humble ourselves as a nation and are able to pray as a nation. Wouldn’t that just be the greatest experience ever!
